That former President Donald Trump would spend the 20th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 calling a boxing match with Don, Jr. in tow is true to form.
It's a vulgar reminder about how everything is about him and that he is the center of the universe who puts the me in America.
In which case, let him do it. Because Trump's presence at any 9/11 tribute would only sully the proceedings.
Let us not forget that upon learning of the terrorist attack, Trump's first reaction was to brag that he now owned the tallest building in New York City.
When running for President, Trump falsely claimed "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey were celebrating the fall of the Twin of Towers on 9/11.
Eighteen years later, as President of the United States, Trump sought to invite the Taliban to Camp David on the anniversary of 9/11 until he had to be shamed out of it.
But he wasn't shamed in calling off talks with the Taliban which eventually produced the Doha Agreement which has been left to President Biden to implement. One can reasonably criticize Biden's implementation but Biden would never have had to implement such an agreement if Trump hadn't chosen to legitimize the Taliban in the first place.
Oh yeah, Trump also called our soldiers who died in combat "losers and suckers".
If that wasn't enough it was only last month that Trump minimized Osama bin Laden's legacy of evil saying he had "one hit". There were multiple attacks on September 11th at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania aboard United 93 (which if not for the passengers would have likely reached the U.S. Capitol or the White House). Lest we forget the simultaneous attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in August 1998 and the October 2000 attack on the U.S.S. Cole killing 17 members of the U.S. Navy. But, again, losers and suckers.
So let Trump call his boxing match while the rest of us can properly mourn those who died on September 11, 2001.
