Mattis Says Tel Aviv, Not Jerusalem is Israel's Capital

During his confirmation hearing for Secretary of Defense yesterday on Capitol Hill, Senator Lindsey Graham asked retired General James Mattis what city he considered to be Israel's capital.

Mattis said Tel Aviv. He told Graham, “The capital of Israel that I go to, sir, is Tel Aviv, sir, because that’s where all their government people are.”

Uh, last I checked, Israel's Knesset is in Jerusalem.

When Graham asked Mattis if he supported moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem he deferred that question to Rex Tillerson, Trump's nominee for Secretary of State who is also currently in hearing for his confirmation.

Mattis' likening Israel to an Apartheid state, his support for the Iran nuclear deal and his unwillingness to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital make me disinclined to take Trump seriously when it comes to improving relations with Israel.
