Duck Soup 2017 or Make Freedonia Great Again

As I have done for many years, I spent New Year's Day at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts watching a day's worth of Marx Brothers movies.

The last of the films was Duck Soup. If you are familiar with the plot, the land of Freedonia is in crisis and only one man can save it. Rufus T. Firefly (as played by Groucho). Within days of taking office, Firefly gets Freedonia mired into war and descends the country into further chaos.
As Firefly sings during his inauguration, "The last man nearly ruined this place he didn't know what to do with it. If you think this country's bad off now, just wait till I get through with it!"

This sums up how I feel about the outgoing Obama Administration and the incoming Trump Administration. President Obama nearly ruined the country and shudder at the thought of what it will be when Trump is through with it.

As my roommate Christopher Kain put it, "Make Freedonia Great Again." Of course, Firefly's administration is far funnier than Trump will ever be. Things aren't going to be very funny for the next four to eight years and possibly beyond. It makes New Year's Day with the Marx Brothers all the more important and the all the more necessary.
