John D. Loudermilk, R.I.P.

Acclaimed songwriter John D. Loudermilk has passed away. The cause of death has not been released. He was 82.

Although Loudermilk's roots were in country music, he would make his biggest mark in rock 'n roll. Loudermilk is best remembered for three songs - "Tobacco Road" by The Nashville Teens & numerous others (including War with Eric Burdon), "Then You Call Tell Me Goodbye" by The Casinos as well as Paul Revere & The Raiders' biggest hit "Indian Reservation (Lament of the Cherokee Nation)".

Have a listen to all these songs below. All of them are very different. The fact that these artists could arrange Loudermilk's songs in their respective manner is a tribute to the high quality of his songwriting.
