So Tim Tebow has signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. I, for one, hope he finds success in baseball. He could have potential as a power hitter.
Of course, there are some players who resent his signing because it took away an opportunity for another minor leaguer. Maybe so, but by that reasoning the same people ought to lambaste Michael Jordan for his stint in the Chicago White Sox organization.
Then there are those who hate Tim Tebow for being Tim Tebow. I don't know why he gets singled out. There are a lot of professional athletes who have deep Christian beliefs. I suspect that many of the people who hate Tebow would probably like him a great deal more if he sat down during the Star Spangled Banner while wearing socks portraying the police as pigs.
In the final analysis, it is a low risk investment for the Mets. If Tebow doesn't pan out then a minor leaguer who might have been denied a position today will get one tomorrow. But if Tebow does pan out then both the New York Mets and Major League Baseball will be the better for it.
