I heard about the explosion in Chelsea on the way back from seeing Don Rickles in Rhode Island (which I will discuss in another post).
As of this writing, an explosion took place on West 23rd & 7th Avenue wounding 29 people. Another IED was found on 7th & West 27th.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says this was an "intentional act" but is not connected to terrorism. Why does someone deploy an explosive device if not to terrorize people? I just don't see how that statement is anything other than double talk.
When you consider a pipe bomb exploded near a Marine Corps charity race in New Jersey on Saturday morning (along with two other bombs found) one cannot help but wonder if the same person or persons were involved although de Blasio dismissed that possibility out of hand.
As if that wasn't enough there was also a mass stabbing at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota where the attacker made reference to Allah and asked one of his victims if they were Muslim. Eight people were stabbed before the perpetrator was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer. It's not clear if the perpetrator was Muslim or if he was targeting Muslims.
Whatever the case, this is our new normal. The question is why we are putting up with it.
