Colin Powell's E-Mails About Hillary & Trump Reflect Our National Disgust

Obviously, Colin Powell did not intend for his e-mails concerning Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to go public. But now that they have I would argue that they reflect our national disgust with both presidential candidates.

Powell speaks for millions of us when he says Trump is "a national disgrace" and "an international pariah".

Powell also speaks for millions of us who resent Hillary for her inability to tell the truth and take responsibility for her actions. Naturally, Powell feels this personally where it concerns the e-mail scandal and Hillary's efforts to drag him into it.

Naturally, it will be interesting to see how Hillary and Trump respond to these e-mails. I am particularly interested in Trump's response given his repeated claims that the Bush Administration lied about WMDs in Iraq. Of course, it was Powell who made the case that Iraq had WMDs at the UN.

If Trump goes after Powell then Hillary's camp will be smiling. It would take the spotlight off her health and also take Trump's focus away from her. Trump can ill-afford to go after someone like Powell. Despite his role in the Bush Administration, he has never sought elected office and has cross partisan appeal with his support of Barack Obama in the last two elections. But if Trump refrains from criticizing Powell then it will show that he is listening to Kellyanne Conway and is maintaining his discipline he has shown regarding Hillary's health. But a caged animal is still a dangerous animal.

Colin Powell's e-mails not only reflect our national disgust with both Hillary and Trump, but it also reminds us that there are public figures in this country who have character. I don't always agree with Powell, but I do not question his integrity. If he had been on the ballot with Hillary and Trump, I would not hesitate to cast a ballot for him.

I suspect that Colin Powell will get more than a few write-in votes in November.
