Twitter Banning Marjorie Taylor Greene for COVID Misinformation Won't Help Much

Today, Twitter permanently banned Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene's personal account for repeatedly spreading COVID misinformation

In baseball, it's three strikes and you're out, but on Twitter it's five. It might as well be 5,000. While the ban stung MTG enough to claim Twitter was "the enemy of America", her Congressional Twitter account remains active.

Yet the ban is truly a drop in the bucket and won't help much. It will no more diminish MTG's influence than Congress stripping her of committee assignments (which I suspect a Republican controlled Congress will do to some Democrats after the mid-terms). Besides, it's not as if MTG is the only elected Republican official spreading COVID misinformation. Can you say Lauren Boebert or Andy Biggs? Or how about Senators Ron Johnson or Rand Paul? Will Twitter get around to banning them? I doubt it.

And even if they do ban them it only feeds their conspiracy theories instead of marginalizing them. And it's not like they can't go on Fox News or Joe Rogan to spread their misinformation to an audience which cannot get enough of it and are unable tell the difference between a slice a pizza and a piece of shit. It all tastes the same when you just want to be fed.
