Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called President Biden's voting rights speech in Georgia yesterday "profoundly unpresidential" and "beneath his office".
Somehow I think lying about the outcome of an election and preventing the peaceful transfer of power by inciting an attack on the U.S. Capitol is far more profoundly unpresidential and beneath his office if not impeachable though the senior Senator from Kentucky did not think so.
I suppose I shouldn't have expected anything less from him. But in light of Lindsey Graham warning McConnell that he had better mend fences with former President Trump or lose his position, I cannot help but wonder if McConnell is fighting for his political survival. It would go some way in explaining President Biden's muted response to McConnell's criticism as the President only referred to McConnell as a friend. Well. some friend.
Naturally, if McConnell loses his position in the Senate I shall not feel an ounce of sympathy for him even if his successor will probably be worse. McConnell has done precious little to improve the quality of life of Americans during this pandemic. Whatever his differences with President Trump, Mitch McConnell has done this country more harm than good. Of course, the same could be said for 95% of the Republican Party which has become yet another of Donald Trump's properties that diminishes in value with every passing day.
