The Republican National Committee sent the Commission on Presidential Debates a letter informing them they intend to instruct their prospective presidential candidates to boycott any general election debate.
But let's face it. This is about Donald Trump and the last thing the RNC wants is for Trump to debate President Biden in 2024. I say this for three reasons.
First, with Republican legislatures passing voter suppression laws throughout the country, the RNC simply wishes to further undermine the confidence of the American voter in democracy and is trying to delegitimize the Commission on Presidential Debates just as it has seen fit to delegitimize mail in voting.
Second, the RNC doesn't want to put Trump into a position where he has to acknowledge Joe Biden is President of the United States.
Third, the RNC doesn't want Trump on the debate stage with Biden because the former President will remind the country yet again what a fucking lunatic he is. Whatever Biden's shortcomings in the White House, the last thing voters will want to do is give Trump access to the nuclear football. Trump will also remind the country that Biden is the safer choice.
So long as the RNC insists on boycotting general election debates, Democrats should say the RNC is afraid of what Biden will wipe the floor with Trump in the debates all over again.
