On Wednesday, House Republicans unanimously approved an impeachment inquiry against President Biden.
What impeachable conduct President Biden is supposed to have committed remains a mystery. The best James Comer has come up with thus far is that Biden loaned his son Hunter money to pay for Ford Raptor while he was out of public office in 2018.
The GOP impeachment inquiry against President Biden is made of the same whole cloth as claims that the 2020 election was stolen. The problem, however, is there are a significant number of Americans who believe the 2020 election was stolen despite all the evidence to the contrary. As such there are a significant number of Americans who believe President Biden has committed an impeachable offense despite all evidence to the contrary. At the very minimum, the GOP is going to try to convince voters that Biden's imagined transgressions are just as bad as defeated, former President Trump's real transgressions.
One can only hope that a majority of Americans will see through the charade. They might not particular like President Biden or agree with his policies. But they can see that he hasn't used his office for personal gain, didn't refuse to return top secret classified documents much less share them with people who weren't supposed to see them, didn't summon his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol or attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election. One can only hope that will be enough.
