The Biden Administration has ceased working with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) to develop its national strategy to counter anti-Semitism.
The White House's decision to part ways comes with footage having emerged of CAIR co-founder and national executive director Nihad Awad praising Hamas attack on Israel. While speaking to the 16th Annual Convention for Palestine in Chicago on November 24th, Awad stated:
The people of Gaza only decided to break the siege — the walls of the concentration camp — on Oct. 7. And yes, I was happy to see people breaking the siege and throwing down the shackles of their own land and walk free into their land that they were not allowed to walk in.
And yes, the people of Gaza have the right to self-defense — have the right to defend themselves. And yes, Israel as an occupying power does not have that right to self-defense.
Not to toot my own horn, but I told you so.
Back in June, I made my concerns known about CAIR's involvement in the Biden White House's strategy by writing a post titled, "Recruiting CAIR to Counter Anti-Semitism Would Be Like Recruiting Marjorie Taylor-Greene to Counter Transphobia."
Honestly, it should not have come as a shock to the Biden Administration that Awad would praise Hamas' actions against Israel. For all intents and purposes, CAIR is a front for Hamas in the United States.
That the Biden Administration saw fit to include CAIR in developing its national strategy on anti-Semitism was foolish and now they are learning the hard way. Although perhaps better to learn the hard way than not at all. That is, of course, assuming they don't make the same mistake again down the road.
