A pro-Hamas organization calling itself the Philly Palestine Coalition gathered outside Goldie, a falafel restaurant which is owned by Israeli born chef Michael Solomonov.
The mob vandalized the restaurant, chanted anti-Semitic slogans while accusing Solomonov of genocide.
These cowardly acts earned condemnation from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman and the Biden White House.
Shapiro, who is Jewish, stated on X:
Tonight in Philly, we saw a blatant act of antisemitism — not a peaceful protest. A restaurant was targeted and mobbed because its owner is Jewish and Israeli. This hate and bigotry is reminiscent of a dark time in history.
Senator Fetterman also took to X:
They could be protesting Hamas. They could be protesting Hamas' systematic rape of Israeli women and girls or demanding the remaining hostages be immediately released. Instead, they targeted a Jewish restaurant. It's pathetic and rank antisemitism.
Meanwhile, White House spokesman Andrew Bates, echoing Governor Shapiro, stated, “It is antisemitic and completely unjustifiable to target restaurants that serve Israeli food over disagreements with Israeli policy, as Governor Shapiro has underlined.”
I would love to see President Biden, Governor Shapiro and Senator Fetterman all show up at Goldie's, order a falafel and take a bite out of anti-Semitism.
