As of this writing, there are more than 7.2 million Americans (7,277,352) who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Among those 7.2 million plus Americans is Hope Hicks, counselor to the President of the United States. Hicks is around Trump on a daily basis and often accompanies him on Air Force One or Marine One. She accompanied Trump to Cleveland for the presidential debate where the Trump team refused to wear masks when offered by a doctor from the Cleveland Clinic. Hicks also accompanied Trump to Duluth, Minnesota for a rally yesterday. It was on the plane ride back from the rally when Hicks became unwell. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are awaiting their COVID-19 test results at this hour. A short time ago, Trump tweeted that he and the First Lady "will begin our quarantine process."
What exactly this means isn't clear. What does this mean for his rallies? Trump has one scheduled for Sanford, Florida tomorrow. What about the rallies scheduled for Wisconsin this weekend? Mind you, COVID cases and hospitalizations have been surging have been Wisconsin. Whether or not Hicks or any other member of the White House entourage tested positive for COVID-19, Trump holding any kind of rally in Wisconsin is a bad idea. Of course, having a rally in Tulsa back in June was a bad idea as exemplified by the death of Herman Cain six weeks later. Hope Hicks is to turn 32 later this month. Will she too die for Trump? Or what about those who attended a Trump fundraiser earlier today in New Jersey?
Let's suppose he does postpone his upcoming rallies. What happens between now and the next scheduled debate with Joe Biden two weeks from today? The Presidency means more than life itself to Donald Trump. If Trump does test positive for COVID-19 will we be told? Given Trump's complacent public attitude towards the worst pandemic in a century, I have a very bad feeling Trump's "quarantine process" will be short-lived.
