The Lincoln Project is Just Getting Warmed Up Against Trump

If a pandemic, a recession and social unrest aren't enough to wrest President Trump from the White House then perhaps The Lincoln Project will provide the coup de grace.

Who better to kill Donald Trump's presidency than a group of renegade Republican political operatives? Among their rank Rick Wilson describes themselves as "a band of pirates."

Earlier today I took part in a virtual town hall along with 10,000 others to watch and listen to Wilson, Steve Schmidt, Jennifer Horn, Mike Madrid and Reed Galen which was moderated by Ron Steslow. After listening to the nearly 90 minute gathering it is abundantly clear that President Trump can ill afford to have these Republicans as his enemies.

Schmidt called the 2020 election "the most consequential since 1864" which saw the re-election of Abraham Lincoln and soon after that the defeat of the Confederate states. Given Trump's fondness for Confederate monuments it is a fitting analogy.

While Madrid said the response to the Lincoln Project ads against Trump exceeded all expectations he said, "We're just getting warmed up." Galen added, "Our mission isn't over until Joe Biden takes the oath of office on January 20, 2021." Indeed, Biden might win the election, but Trump won't necessarily accept the result.

Horn emphasized the importance of not only defeating Trump but of "defeating Trumpism" and its enablers in the U.S. Senate. Hence their recent ad "Learn Their Names".

Wilson indicated the ads have been so successful because they've managed to get President Trump off his game noting that the President spent more than 15 minutes of his infamous Tulsa speech talking about the ramp at West Point in response to their "Trump is Unwell" ad.

There were a few technical glitches with the presentation which owed more to overwhelming demand which is a good problem to have. Some complained about women not being called upon to ask questions and the lack of minority representation on the panel. I suspect many of these people are more obsessed with identity politics than with defeating President Trump. In any case, for those who missed the Lincoln Project Town Hall you can watch it below.
