Sri Lanka Attacks Prove Islamic Extremism is Still a Global Problem

The Sri Lankan government has formally declared the bombing incidents at several churches and hotels throughout the country on Easter Sunday which has now claimed the lives of 290 people was carried out by an Islamic extremist group known as National Thowheeth Jama’ath. The government added that National Thowheeth Jama'ath had assistance from an "international work" to carry out the attacks. This is most likely ISIS as NTJ members have traveled to Iraq and Syria to be trained and to fight with ISIS.

Yesterday's attack in Sri Lanka once again demonstrates that Islamic extremism remains a global problem that isn't going away. Since September 11, 2001, there have been attacks inspired by Islamic extremism in 41 countries - Muslim and non-Muslim alike covering five of seven continents save for South America and Antarctica.

Unfortunately, not only is polite society unwilling to acknowledge the existence of Islamic extremists it is also unwilling to acknowledge the existence of its victims, in this case Christians as was demonstrated by former President Obama and Hillary Clinton. What are Easter worshippers anyway?

Of course, President Trump's Muslim ban doesn't help matters. It is immoral in principle and unworkable in practice. It amounts to collective punishment and it doesn't address Islamic extremists born and raised in this country.

There are no easy answers. But there will be no answers unless the world recognizes it has a problem on its hands.
