I Suppose Omar Thinks The Boston Marathon Bombing Is Something Some People Did

At this hour, the 123rd Boston Marathon is being run as it is the third Monday of April. But it is also April 15th and it was six years ago today that the Marathon was interrupted by a terrorist attack near the finish line on Boylston Street which claimed the lives of three people. Three days later, a MIT police officer was killed by the perpetrators.

While the Marathon must go on we can never forget what happened on this day six years ago. Nor can we trivialize it. But if Congresswoman Ilhan Omar can casually dismiss the attacks of September 11, 2001 that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 as "some thing some people did" then what of an attack which claimed four lives?

Of course, there were the 264 people who were hospitalized for injuries; sixteen of whom lost limbs. Most of Boylston Street remained closed until 10 days after the attack. I remember standing on Newbury Street looking upon people in white hazmat suits perform the painstaking investigative and restorative work.

But to the Omars of the world it is her fellow Muslims who are the victims. Her supporters like AOC can tweet about the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund all they want. The fact is that she is incapable of acknowledging 9/11 as anything more than something some people did and incapable of placing the responsibility where it belongs. The same can be said of the Boston Marathon Bombing.

Unfortunately, nearly all of Omar's fellow Democrats are circling the wagons around Omar. David Frum convincingly argues that Democrats will pay for such foolishness:

It cannot be pleasant for Omar’s colleagues to have to wonder and worry what that next remark will be—knowing that Donald Trump and his Twitter feed will be waiting to blame all Democrats for the provocations of one. But by not putting themselves on record about Omar when they could, Democrats now find themselves bound to her for the duration. This problem will get worse, and its political consequences will become ever more costly for Democrats who want to win national elections and govern the country.

I can tell you from firsthand experience that the Boston Marathon (especially the area in and around Boylston Street) is guarded the way the Secret Service would guard the President. There will probably never be another terrorist attack in Boston on the third Monday in April. There will probably never be another terrorist attack in Lower Manhattan. But one of these days there will be another terrorist attack in this country and the people responsible for it will have pledged allegiance to an Islamic terrorist organization. What are Democrats going to do when Omar characterizes it as something some people did?
