After resignations continued to flow in from amongst the Tory ranks, Boris Johnson announced he would resign as UK Prime Minister - well, sort of.
Johnson will not step down immediately. He plans to remain at Number 10 Downing until a successor is chosen. How quickly that will happen remains to be seen although I'm sure they want to do it promptly as Johnson is an albatross around their necks. I would imagine this would be done no later than the Conservative Party Annual Conference this October in Birmingham. Yet I cannot help but think that Johnson has something up his sleeve to remain in power despite his resignation. But such a gambit would likely fail. It will be interesting to see if further pressure is brought to bear on him to depart sooner. If there is then it gives the Tories an impetus to choose a new leader quickly.
For the moment, while Johnson will move out of Number 10 before the end of 2022 he will remain for this week and possibly a few more. For a lot of people in the UK, it is a few weeks too many.
