In an interview with the BBC, French President Emmanuel Macron claimed Israel is bombing "ladies, babies and old people".
To be precise, Macron stated:
De facto - today, civilians are bombed - de facto. These babies, these ladies, these old people are bombed and killed. So there is no reason for that and no legitimacy. So we do urge Israel to stop.
Macron called upon Israel to accept a ceasefire, but no mention of the hostages being held by Hamas.
In so doing, Macron is engaging in moral equivalency. Israel isn't deliberately trying to kill babies, ladies and old people much less bragging about it by livestreaming murder. Hamas is using civilians as human shields and Macron knows it. Macron is making demands of Israel that he would not make for France if its civilians were roused from their homes and butchered or taken hostage.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by stating Macron "made a serious mistake, factually and morally."
I'm not completely surprised by Macron's posturing. When he feted Mahmoud Abbas in July 2022, Macron saw fit to pin all responsibility upon Israel for the conflict with the Palestinians. A few months earlier, Macron called upon Ukraine to give up some of its sovereignty to Russia.
As contemptible as Marine Le Pen is, it is clear that Macron is an appeaser and a quisling.
