Axelrod Does Trump's Bidding By Calling on Biden to Drop Out After Bad NY Times Poll

This morning the New York Times released a poll showing defeated, former President Donald Trump leading President Biden in five out of six swing states. The poll conducted with Siena College show Trump ahead of Biden in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Pennsylvania. Only in Wisconsin does Biden have a lead and by 2 points at that.

For their part, the Biden re-election campaign appears unconcerned. Spokesman Kevin Munoz stated"Predictions more than a year out tend to look a little different a year later. Don't take our word for it: Gallup predicted an eight-point loss for President Obama only for him to win handedly a year later."

However, David Axelrod, former senior adviser to ex-President Barack Obama, didn't get the memo. Axelrod is calling upon President Biden to drop out of the race. On X (formerly known as Twitter), Axelrod stated:

It’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict & Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm.

Trump is a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, laws and institutions or democracy should be disqualifying. But the stakes of miscalculation here are too dramatic to ignore.

Only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?

Last I checked, Trump is facing 91 state and federal indictments while President Biden is facing none.

This isn't a tough choice.

But because of one bad poll, Axelrod goes wobbly and basically does Trump's bidding by calling upon the President to drop out of the race.

Trump is grinning ear to ear.

There is little love lost between Axelrod and President Biden. Axelrod has had outbursts over Biden before the mid-terms which proved to be unrealized.  However, he has not previously called upon Biden to step down. Although he hasn't gone so far as to endorse Minnesota Democratic Congressman Dean Phillips who launched his presidential campaign late last month.

If Axelrod doesn't have Phillips in mind, then whom? Michelle Obama?

Let us be clear. If Biden were to drop out there is no guarantee the person running in his stead would prevail against Trump. If Republicans can stand behind a man very likely to become a convicted felon, then why can't Democrats stand behind a man honest as the day is long?

It is well worth noting that this poll is among registered voters rather than likely voters. In other words, a good many of the people polled might not vote next year at all. Polls focusing on registered voters are more likely to be skewed and not reflective of actual voting behavior.

Of course, Axelrod knows this but puts out this rubbish anyhow. Clearly Axelrod has an axe to grind against President Biden. So be it. But it is irresponsible for Axelrod to put his personal feelings ahead of the stability and future of American democracy.
