If Young People Stand With Hamas, Then We Shouldn't Be Surprised They Stand With Bin Laden

Much has been made about Osama bin Laden's 2002 "Letter to America" going viral on TikTok with many of its young users standing in agreement with the late al Qaeda leader and for understandable reasons.

After reading bin Laden's letter, one TikToker claimed, "everything we learned about the Middle East, 9/11, and 'terrorism' was a like." That video garnered nearly 1 million views.

Another TikToker, in a video with 100,000 plus views, stated, "If we're going to call Osama bin Laden a terrorist, so is the American government."

Other TikTokers said of bin Laden, "He was right."

So, what exactly was bin Laden "right" about?

As you can imagine much of bin Laden's rhetoric is directed against Jews and Americans for supporting Israel. Case in point:

Why are we fighting and opposing you? The answer is very simple:

(1) Because you attacked us and continue to attack us.

a) You attacked us in Palestine:

(i) Palestine, which has sunk under military occupation for more than 80 years. The British handed over Palestine, with your help and your support, to the Jews, who have occupied it for more than 50 years; years overflowing with oppression, tyranny, crimes, killing, expulsion, destruction and devastation. The creation and continuation of Israel is one of the greatest crimes, and you are the leaders of its criminals. And of course there is no need to explain and prove the degree of American support for Israel. The creation of Israel is a crime which must be erased. Each and every person whose hands have become polluted in the contribution towards this crime must pay its price and pay for it heavily.

For starters, the British did not "hand" over Palestine to the Jews. The United Nations General Assembly voted to establish a Jewish and an Arab state in 1947 under the auspices of the UN Partition Plan. This is also known as UN Resolution 181. The long and the short of it is that the Jews said yes and the Arabs (now the Palestinians) said no.

Of course, the facts are immaterial to bin Laden. In bin Laden's view, the State of Israel is a crime and Americans must die because of their support for it just as Hamas killed Jews for living in a Jewish homeland.

As appalling as it is to know there are young Americans praising Osama bin Laden, we shouldn't be surprised. If young people in this country are cheering on Hamas for killing Jews is it really a stretch of the imagination that young people who find solidarity and solace with the man responsible for 9/11? While their organizational objectives might be different both organizations are fine with murdering Jews and killing Americans for allegedly aiding and abetting Jews.

Most frightening of all is that within 20 to 25 years, barring a sea change in attitude, these pro-Hamas and pro-al Qaeda sentiments will become mainstream opinion in the United States or what is left of it.
