Over the weekend, Israel rescued four hostages from the clutches of Hamas.
Noa Argamani, Almog Meir, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv have been freed and reunited with their families. All four had been taken in captivity by Hamas at the Noa Music Festival on October 7th.
But instead of rejoicing much of the world sneers.
The EU High Representative Joseph Borrell called the rescue "appalling."
Not to be outdone, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese characterized the rescue as "genocidal intent turned into action."
The reason for their objections?
Hamas claims 274 civilians were killed during the rescue.
While I have no doubt some civilians were killed during the course of the rescue, Hamas does not distinguish between actual civilian deaths and those of its fighters and its reporting methods are at best dubious.
But as with MAGA when things don't go Donald Trump's way, much of the world is not interested in the facts. They simply wish to pillory Israel for the purposes of making it a global pariah.
Much of the world would rather the four rescued hostages had simply been killed by Hamas.
Of course, the Palestinian civilians who are non-Hamas combatants who have lost their lives would still be with us if Hamas a) had not taken hostages, raped and murdered Israelis in their own homes and b) made a point of using the civilian population as human shields.
Alas the world won't let those facts get in the way of rendering Israel persona non grata up to and including the rescue of its innocent hostages.
