For the first time in over 5 years, Boston is Title Town again.
The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 of the NBA Final to win their first NBA Title since 2008. In fact, their last title came 16 years ago tonight. The Celtics have now supplanted the Los Angeles Lakers in winning the most NBA titles with 18. Jaylen Brown earned NBA Finals MVP honors.
Although this is 12th championship the city of Boston has won since 2002, it marks the first championship since the New England Patriots won Super Bowl LIII in 2019.
As of this writing, there has been no formal announcement for a victory parade. But with Juneteenth taking this Wednesday and most people having the day off, it would make a world of sense for the parade to take place the day after tomorrow, but we'll see what Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has to say about it.
On a personal note, it will be my first Celtics parade. I was at work during the 2008 parade. I've been to three Red Sox World Series parades (2004, 2007 and 2013), one Bruins Stanley Cup parade (2011) and one Patriots Super Bowl parade (2017 - when the Pats came back from being down 28-3 to the Atlanta Falcons).
I'll have to find a way to navigate crowds and manage the heat as it is expected to hit 97 degrees on Wednesday.
