Yesterday, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hosted a forum on anti-Semitism.
AOC described anti-Semitism as "dangerous" adding:
Antisemitism is an assault on our values as Americans, and especially as progressives. Antisemitism is also a threat to a community that is a vital partner in our struggles against injustice. So when the Jewish community is threatened, the progressive movement is undermined.
Yes, anti-Semitism is dangerous, and I wish AOC would stop engaging in it.
I am unable to take AOC's claims as champion against anti-Semitism with any degree of credibility or seriousness as long as she insists on accusing Israel of genocide - a defamatory claim.
If one blames U.S. aid to Israel as the reason for the absence of universal health care in this country, then your claims against anti-Semitism are suspect.
I am also disinclined to take her seriously when she also claims, “It is also true that accusations and false accusations of antisemitism are wielded against people of color and women of color by bad-faith political actors, and weaponizing antisemitism is used to divide us.”
AOC is basically telling us that women of color and racial minorities are immune from being challenged for anti-Semitic behavior. I have very little respect for non-Jews who tell Jews what is and isn't anti-Semitism.
At best, AOC wants to have it both ways. Decry anti-Semitism from certain quarters while excusing in others and having license to engage in it herself.
