U.S. COVID Deaths Surpass 950,000 Out of 79 Million Cases

Today, the United States surpassed 950,000 deaths from COVID-19 while also topping 79 million cases. According to Johns Hopkins University, there have been 79,035,756 COVID-19 cases resulting in 950,408 deaths representing a mortality rate of 1.2%.

It has taken 13 days to go from 78 to 79 million cases as well as go from 925,000 to 950,000 deaths as cases have steadily dropped with the pace of deaths slowing as well. At this current pace, the United States will surpass 1 million COVID deaths on March 26th.

In recent days, the CDC has loosened mask guidelines for most indoor places in most counties except for those who are unvaccinated though I think the unvaccinated are probably not wearing masks in the first place. I don't see the federal government lifting the mask mandate for public transportation anytime soon although Boston Bruins fans seem to think they are exempt from such rules.

Barring another surge (which is certainly not beyond the realm of possibility) it seems to me that most people are done with COVID even if COVID is not quite done with us.
