King Felix Becomes 2nd Cy Young Winner to Opt Out of 2020 Season

Only hours after 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner David Price announced he would not partake in the shortened 2020 MLB season due to COVID-19 concerns, 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner Felix Hernandez made a statement through his agent indicating he would be opting out as well.

Hernandez, 34, has pitched for 15 seasons with the Seattle Mariners. In addition to his Cy Young, Hernandez is a 6 time AL All-Star and has thrown a perfect game. However, he was coming off his worst season going 1-8 with a 6.40 ERA in 15 starts with Seattle last season. Hernandez had signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves this off-season.

Earlier today, it was revealed that several of Hernandez's new Braves teammates have tested positive for COVID-19 including All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman as well as pitchers Touki Touissant and Will Smith plus utility player. No doubt this factored into King Felix's decision.

With two Cy Young winners having opted out how long will it be before a MVP or two follows suit?
