In the space of a week, two political upstarts ousted sitting Congressmen in primary races.
On June 23rd, Jamaal Bowman stunned House Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Eliot Engel in the Democratic Party in New York's 16th Congressional District which covers The Bronx and the southern portion of Westchester County. Engel had been in Congress for over 30 years.
One week later, restaurant owner Lauren Boebert upset five term Republican Congressman Scott Tipton in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District which is situated in the state's rural Western Slope encompassing portions of Pueblo and Grand Junction.
New York's 16th is a safe Democratic district so Bowman is a shoo-in while Colorado's 3rd is a more of a swing district but leans Republican which makes Boebert the favorite in the race. I am grateful that I live in neither district (although New York's 16th is a little too close for comfort.)
From where I sit both Bowman and Boebert represent two sides of the same coin. They personify the clowns on the left, jokers to the right mentality which has besieged American politics.
I am unable to give any credence to Bowman who claims Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib "do not hate Israel" despite their support for BDS which aims to end Israel's existence. I believe Bowman's claim about Omar and Tlaib about as much as I believe White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany's claim that President Trump is the most informed person on planet Earth.
Which brings me to Boebert who praises QAnon conspiracy theory there is a "deep state" conspiracy theory against President Trump by pedophiles in a pizza shop as "really great for our country." Aside from being loopy, Boebert is a blithering idiot who defied COVID-19 restrictions to keep her restaurant open. Boebert owns a restaurant called Shooters Grill located in the aptly named Rifle, Colorado where waitstaff carry guns. There is nothing worse than having a lawmaker who believes she is above the law.
The fact that people are prepared to elect Bowman and Boebert tells me that we are surrounded by morons.
