Former Ohio Governor John Kasich is set to endorse Joe Biden at next month's Democratic National Convention.
This is the smart play. After all, Kasich famously skipped the 2016 Republican National Convention held in his home state.
Unfortunately, the Far Left is appalled at Kasich's presence at the proceedings deeming him impure of thought. Peter Daou, David Sirota and Krystal Ball have all stated their objections. Not surprisingly, all are supporters of Bernie Sanders.
Author Michael Arceneaux declared, "To give him a platform at the Democratic convention because he’s anti-Trump is silly and insulting."
No it isn't. The fact is that Joe Biden needs Republican voters to defeat Donald Trump and what better way to fulfill that objective than by having a former Republican Governor speak on Biden's behalf?
In the past, Republicans have been effective at getting Democrats to speak on behalf of their presidential candidates whether it was Jeane Kirkpatrick for Ronald Reagan at the 1984 RNC or Zell Miller and Ron Silver for George W. Bush at the 2004 RNC. Why can't Democrats flip the script?
If Trump is to be defeated than a broad base of the electorate has to come together. That broad base will include people who would not normally show common cause with one another. But if The Far Left cannot show common cause in defeating Trump because, eek, there's a Republican speaking at the DNC then they are welcome to four more years of Trump.
