Taking a page from Ron DeSantis' book, GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Haley in an interview with Fox News called upon New York Governor Kathy Hochul to pardon the NYC subway killer Daniel Penny.
While Haley didn't call Penny "a Good Samaritan" like DeSantis did she sing his praises for taking a human life claiming, “He saw danger. He was trying to protect himself and the other people on that subway." Haley added that as a Marine it was in Penny's "blood to defend and protect".
So being a Marine gives one license to take someone's life? While Jordan Neely's behavior might have warranted an arrest for disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and uttering threats, he did not have a weapon on his person, nor did he initiate physical contact with anyone on the train. Daniel Penny wasn't protecting anyone on that train. Well, at least one witness saw things quite differently and informed Penny that he was in the act of killing Neely and could face a murder charge. But according to Haley, we don't need to bother with a trial because it is OK to choke a black, homeless person to death if you are in Marine and it is in your blood to defend and protect. It is OK to take the law into your own hands.
As with DeSantis, I don't think Haley honestly believes what she is saying. She just wants the MAGA vote and is perfectly fine to jump in on the NYC subway killer's bandwagon if it will get her votes. While Haley might not believe what she is saying she certainly hope that MAGA crowd does.
