Alabama GOP Senator Tuberville Calls White Nationalists "Americans" Who Should Be a Part Of Our Military

In an interview with a NPR affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville was asked if white nationalists should serve in the U.S. military. To which Tuberville replied, "They (The Biden Administration) call them that. I call them Americans."

In other words, white nationalists are "very fine people." There's more:
We are losing in the military so fast. Our readiness in terms of recruitment. And why? I’ll tell you why, because the Democrats are attacking our military, saying we need to get out the white extremists, the white nationalists, people that don’t believe in our agenda, as Joe Biden’s agenda. They’re destroying it.

Tuberville's staff realized the shit sandwich their Senator had prepared and tried to make it into a tasty cheeseburger, but what they came up with was equally hard to swallow:

Sen. Tuberville’s quote that is cited shows that he was being skeptical of the notion that there are white nationalists in the military, not that he believes they should be in the military.

Nice try. But Tuberville wasn't questioning if there were white nationalists in the military. Tuberville very clearly objected to the Biden Administration weeding them out and went as far as to say to weed them out would be to destroy the U.S. military. Tuberville knew exactly what he was saying.

After all, this is hardly the first time Tuberville has blown the dog whistle. At a Trump rally in Nevada last October, Tuberville equated African-Americans to criminals:

No, they're not soft on crime, they're pro-crime. They (Democrats) want crime. They want crime because they want to take over what you've got. They want to control what you have. They want reparation because they think the people that do the crime are owed that. Bullshit!

If one believes white nationalists (or white supremacists) should be in the military because they are "Americans" then at the very minimum one has demonstrated their tolerance of racism and anti-Semitism. Because if one believes white supremacists should be in the military and other arenas of public life then there is a very good chance one is in fact a white supremacist. In the case of Senator Tuberville, I would say those chances are very good.
