In the wake of crude pipe bombs being sent to the office of former President Obama, the home of Bill & Hillary Clinton, Congresswomen Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Maxine Waters, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and CNN headquarters in the Time Warner Building, President Trump has called for "a major federal investigation" into the matter.
Trump's proclamation rings hollow. Let's not forget how he hamstrung the FBI in investigating sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Why would Trump permit an investigation if there is a strong likelihood of wrongdoing by one of his supporters?
Trump claims, “We’re extremely angry, upset, unhappy about what we witnessed this morning and we’ll get to the bottom of it. We have to unify. We have to come together."
These words ring equally hollow. When Trump is not publicly shaming sexual assault victims, he vilifies people because of their national origin claiming they are terrorists all the while acknowledging he has no evidence to support his claims. Since when has Trump let the facts get in the way of his demagoguery?
His call to come together will last until his next rally or his next tweet whichever comes first.
