Wow!!! What a NL Wild Card game. I did not expect that result nor did the North Side of Chicago.
Colorado Rockies backup catcher Tony Walters, a .170 hitter, will never have to buy another meal in Colorado ever again after delivering the go ahead hit in the top of the 13th inning to give the Rockies a 2-1 victory.
This game had everything - strong starting pitching from Jon Lester and Kyle Freeland, balls stuck in the ivy, a hug near third base, a batter with leg cramps and an umpire who got hit with a pitch instead of the batter. Of course, it ended with the unlikeliest of heroes. I know I'm not doing this game justice, but it's nearly 1:30 a.m. and I have to get to bed and be up in five hours. Let's just say the Cubs and Rockies are both worthy teams and they have set the bar high.
I didn't think the Rockies could travel from L.A. to Chicago and win a game, but they did. Now they have a far shorter trip to Milwaukee where they will take on the Brewers in the NLDS commencing Thursday.
