Like most people, I was unaware that Joe Anoa'i (who the world knows as WWE superstar Roman Reigns) had been diagnosed with leukemia more than a decade ago. The leukemia has returned and Reigns surrendered his WWE Universal Title at a Monday Night RAW event in Providence, Rhode Island.
Although Reigns is billed as a good guy, WWE fans have long given him a hostile reaction because of perceived favorable treatment over other more popular wrestlers. Last night was no exception until Reigns revealed his diagnosis. It is a shame that Reigns has to tell the world he is fighting for his life to receive a measure of kindness.
I hope Reigns can beat cancer again and return to the ring again soon. Perhaps the wrestling crowds will come to appreciate him next time around.
