Here is part of what I wrote on February 1, 2023, two weeks before Nikki Haley, formally launched her presidential campaign:
(A)s for Haley, she doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning the Republican nomination and she knows it. In the space of less than 100 days after the January 6th attacks, she went from wanting Trump out of public life to saying she would support him and not run if he did. Now it appears she's running. All of which makes her comes across as a phony. Honestly, Haley isn't running for President. Rather, she's running to be Trump's VP. But I don't think Trump sees her as loyal in the way he sees someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene. This isn't deterring her but Haley seems determined to learn the hard way.
Nikki Haley, indeed, never stood a chance of winning the Republican nomination. Hell, it's a minor miracle that she won a GOP primary in Vermont. Somehow, I don't think she's learned very much as she finally ended her campaign today less than 24 hours after Super Tuesday. Haley declared, "It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him. And I hope he does that." I think it stands to reason this includes her vote. In which case, it is only a matter of time before Haley endorses Trump. I'm sure she'll endorse by mid-July before the Republican National Convention. Perhaps much sooner.
While still ostensibly competing against Trump in South Carolina, Haley made it clear she would pardon him if he were convicted of a crime "in the best interests of bringing the country together." In reality, Haley would have only served Trump's interests. Prior to the New Hampshire primary I wrote, "The long and the short of it, Haley still wants a political future and that means bowing to Trump even if it is unlikely that he will pick her as his running mate."
To be in the Republican Party is to be in service of Donald Trump, not to the United States of America much less our Constitution. To be in the service of Donald Trump is to be devoid of dignity. As Liz Cheney said, "There will be a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain." Nikki Haley is merely the latest Republican to wear that badge of dishonor.
