While there are those are trying to gin up the possibility of Nikki Haley upsetting defeated, former President Donald Trump in tomorrow night's New Hampshire GOP Primary, I'm just not seeing it. Unless the polls are incredibly wrong, Trump is leading Haley in NH by anywhere between 11 and 27 points.
Should Trump beat Haley by double digits in New Hampshire, then I don't see how she carries on to South Carolina to be blown out of the water in her home state. Haley might wait a few days like DeSantis did following Iowa, but she will drop out and endorse Trump despite her questioning his mental acuity when he repeatedly mistook her for Nancy Pelosi. If Haley is prepared to support Trump if he is convicted of multiple felonies, then why would she draw the line at him mistaking her for Pelosi? She'll find a way to say that President Biden is worse.
The long and the short of it, Haley still wants a political future and that means bowing to Trump even if it is unlikely that he will pick her as his running mate. During a rally in Concord, New Hampshire, Trump said of Haley, “She is OK, but she is not presidential timber. And when I say that, that probably means she is not going to be chosen as the vice president.” Then again, when Haley hears the word "probably", she "probably" thinks, "So, you're telling me there's a chance."
For his part, Trump claims the only reason he appointed her as UN Ambassador is so that Henry McMaster could succeed her as Governor of South Carolina. Not that I believe him, but if it were true, it is a bizarre reason to appoint someone to your presidential cabinet you don't think has toughness necessary to do the job. Frankly, if Trump were re-elected it would not surprise me if he appointed Haley UN Ambassador once more. It would also not surprise if she said in response, "Thank you, Mr. President, may I have another, sir?"
As with most Republicans, I have no respect for Nikki Haley. Because when it comes to Trump, Haley and nearly all other Republicans have no respect for themselves let alone an ounce of dignity.
