It doesn't come as much of a surprise that the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Colorado Supreme Court's decision last December to remove defeated, former President Trump from the ballot. I certainly expected it.
However, rather than rule whether or not Trump engaged in an insurrection, the Supremes simply said Colorado didn't have the jurisdiction to remove a federal candidate from the ballot. Regardless of how they came to their decision, such it renders subsequent decisions by Maine's Secretary of State and an Illinois judge to remove from Trump from their state ballots moot.
All of which means it is up to us the voters to prevent Trump from returning to the White House. Of course, should this come to pass, Trump is going cry and whine "fraud" and "stolen election." But it will also mean he will have been repudiated in back-to-back presidential elections.
Not that Trump would take a hint, mind you. Should Republicans control either House of Congress they will deny certification of President Biden's re-election and have the House of Representatives install Trump as President thereby ignoring the will of the voters. In which case, this could all end up back in the lap of the Supreme Court and I'm not so sure they would abide by the will of the voters either.
