Mask Mandate Ended Today in Boston & Somerville; Cambridge on March 14th

Today, both Boston and Somerville ended their indoor mask mandates. Meanwhile, Cambridge will end its mask mandate on March 14th - 9 days from now. Boston and Somerville had their indoor mask mandate in place since late August while Cambridge implemented theirs after Labor Day.

On most days, I am in all three cities and today was no exception. Indeed, I live on a street which is split by the Cambridge-Somerville line. It could be said that it is a matter of a few feet where one is required to wear mask and where one is not. However, businesses are free to continue mask mandates for their establishments if they so choose.

In which case, I think there will be quite a bit mask wearing in indoor settings in all three cities. Some people will choose to do out of caution while others will do so out of habit. Of course, it is entirely possible that a new COVID variant could be responsible for yet another surge prompting municipalities to reintroduce their mask mandates. At least municipalities have that option in Massachusetts. The same cannot be said for places like Florida and Texas

Even if I am not required to wear a mask in most settings, I will not leave home without one for the foreseeable future. Masks are still required on public transportation and in health care facilities. I use the T just about everyday and you never know when you're going to need a doctor.
