Poor Ronald McDonald (Or Kick Out The Clowns)

In what has to be the dumbest overreaction ever, McDonald's is banishing Ronald McDonald because of this "creepy clown" phenomenon:

In a statement Tuesday, the fast-food chain announced that Ronald McDonald and his signature red and gold garb won’t be seen in public for a while, at least until America stops being so collectively terrified of his kind.

The chain’s more than 14,000 locations nationwide are “mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities” and “are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being,” spokeswoman Terri Hickey said in an emailed statement to NBC News.

The announcement comes after weeks of reported creepy clown sightings across the United States that have led to something approaching mass hysteria, playground panic and even some arrests.

What the hell is this country coming to anyway?

Well, if Evangelical Christians consider Donald Trump a man of virtue....

But that's just it. What's up is down. What's right is wrong. What's sacred is now profane.

Ronald McDonald has been in the public eye for more than 50 years and because of, well, a few clowns he is being shunned. By shunning Ronald McDonald all one does is give reinforcement to the views that clowns are associated with fear instead of fun. It also reinforces the behavior of these fools who see fit to use clowning as a means of cruelty towards children.

If anything, McDonald's should give Ronald McDonald a higher profile than ever so as not to let the boorish behavior of a few rogue clowns define an art that has been around for centuries.

But this would require common sense. Unfortunately, this is in short supply these days.
