It's a Wee Bit Late For Republicans to Repudiate Trump Now

Sure now Ben Stein says Donald Trump is beyond the pale. A mere four days ago, he argued Trump was the victim of leftist bullying.

I find it interesting that it is something vile that Trump said 11 years ago could what does him in. Of course, the phrase "grab them by the pussy" is not something you want to hear out of the mouth of a future President. But Trump has said so many egregious things over the past 16 months in full public view yet it didn't prevent Republicans from freely choosing to nominate him.

Of course, there have been honorable exceptions among Republicans. Senators Ben Sasse and Jeff Flake come to mind as does Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. But these are anomalies. It must be remembered that Nebraska Republicans rebuked Sasse for his criticisms of Trump.

Honestly, Republicans knew exactly what they were getting with Trump and just didn't care. Some of them are breaking ranks now only because they think Trump is going to lose big. If this tape came out and Trump were up 6 points do you think Paul Ryan would have asked Trump to stay away from Wisconsin this weekend?

This is the candidate Republicans wanted. Now you got him. Deal with it. You've jumped into bed with Donald Trump and now you have to lay down with him as he rolls over you over and over again.

P.S. It's interesting that Stein wrote this in The American Spectator. That would be the same publication which prohibited me from criticizing Trump less than two months ago. Of course, Stein has a different status with the magazine than I did. But it could be the case that Bob Tyrrell is cutting his losses with Trump and once again permitting criticism of him. Whatever the case, I have no plans to go back.
