Ramaswamy Didn't Want To Beat Trump; He Wants To Be His Heir Apparent

Although Vivek Ramaswamy suspended his presidential campaign within a couple of hours of his fourth-place finish in Iowa, in many respects his campaign was very successful.

Prior to his presidential bid, Ramaswamy was a virtual unknown. Now he is a player in Republican politics and a leading light of the MAGA world (such as it is).

Unlike Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, Ramaswamy wasn't in this race to beat Trump. He was in the race to be Trump's heir apparent. After all, Ramaswamy said not a negative word about Trump and was the first to raise his hand when asked if he would support Trump even if he were a convicted criminal. Notwithstanding the fact Trump took aim at Ramaswamy a few days ago, that did not stop Ramaswamy from immediately endorsing Trump upon exiting the race. Today, he was at Trump's side in New Hampshire.

Now whether Ramaswamy becomes Trump's heir apparent remains to be seen. I'm not sure the MAGAverse will entirely accept a Hindu as their standard bearer even if he does speak their language. But Ramaswamy is a rising star who Trump could name to a cabinet post or even be a VP pick. Whatever annoyance Trump had with Ramaswamy a few days ago is gone now as Trump did nothing to discourage Ramaswamy's future with him. Trump said, "He'll be working for us for a long time."

As for me, Ramaswamy is Trump's heir apparent where it concerns his boorish and obnoxious demeanor. In this sense, Ramaswamy fits in perfectly in the MAGAverse. His presidential aspirations are dormant for now, but we will be hearing a lot from Vivek Ramaswamy in the years to come whether we want to or not.
