The man responsible for killing 18 people in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night cannot hurt anyone else as he has taken his own life ending a 48-hour manhunt.
Still, the pain he caused will endure for many years to come. There is the grief of the loss of family and friends and the impact it will have on Lewiston, the surrounding community and in all of Maine.
Then there remains the question of why this man felt the need to go on a rampage. We know he had a mental illness but what, for lack of a better word, triggered him to commit such a heinous act?
There is also the question of whether Maine will tighten its gun laws. Despite the raw emotion, there's a good chance Maine might not see anything like this for 100 years.
Then again, something like this could happen in Maine again tomorrow. And if it doesn't then we can be sure it won't be long before something like this happens somewhere else in America again.
