Minnesota Democratic Congressman Dean Phillips, who has been making noises since July about a primary challenger to President Biden, has filed paperwork and will formally announce his candidacy in Concord, New Hampshire tomorrow.
With President Biden not running in the New Hampshire primary due to differences over his desire to have South Carolina's primary go first, Phillips might have a good shot at winning in the Granite State though the DNC won't seat any of his delegates if he does.
For his part, Phillips isn't criticizing Biden's performance or policies, but rather his age:
I think President Biden has done a spectacular job for our country, but it's not about the past. This is an election about the future. I will not sit still. I will not be quiet in the face of numbers that are so clearly saying that we're going to be facing an emergency next November.
If Biden is doing a spectacular job, then Dean Phillips should support him. Full stop.
With the clear and present danger of Trumpism, President Biden has shown himself to be the only one who can hold it at bay. Phillips isn't telling us why he should be President other than he's younger than Biden. That could be said of a lot of members of Congress. That doesn't make Phillips anything special.
Dean Phillips' presidential campaign is nothing more than a vanity project which can only help defeated, former President Trump.
