There would be no celebration for the Toronto Blue Jays tonight as the Los Angeles Dodgers would force a Game 7 following a 3-1 victory in Game 6.
All of the offense took place in the 3rd inning with the Dodgers scoring three runs on a double by Will Smith and a two-run single by the struggling Mookie Betts. The Jays responded with a single by ALCS hero George Springer who returned to the lineup after missing both Games 4 & 5. Indeed, Springer was on deck in the bottom of the 9th as the potential winning run when Andres Giménez lined out into a game ending double play.
The Blue Jays actually outhit the Dodgers 8 to 4 and had runners on base in every inning except for the second. But three inning-ending double plays including the 9th inning did not help matters. Dodgers pitching found a way to keep the Jays' offense grounded.
No complete game for Yoshinobu Yamamoto this time around, but he pitched six strong innings giving up only one run on five hits while the triumvirate of Justin Wrobleski, Roki Sasaki and Tyler Glasnow pitched three scoreless innings.
So, given everything which has happened in this World Series, perhaps it is fitting this goes to a seventh and deciding game.
Can the Blue Jays rebound and regroup and win their first World Series title since 1993? Or will the Dodgers sweep the Jays at home in Games 6 & 7 and become the first team to win consecutive World Series in a quarter century?
The 2025 MLB season comes down to this tomorrow night for some November baseball.
