The Jays won the seventh and deciding game of the ALCS by a score of 4-3 with the difference being a 3-run HR by DH George Springer in the 7th inning which neutralized HRs hit earlier in the game by Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh. It was Springer's 23rd career post-season HR tying him with Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber for third on the all-time MLB list and behind only his former Houston Astros teammate Jose Altuve (27) and Manny Ramirez (29).
Despite Springer's heroics, it was Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. who was bestowed with the ALCS MVP hitting .385 (10 for 26) with 3 HR.
Toronto had been down in the ALCS 0-2 after the Mariners won the first two games of the series in Toronto. After tying the series, the Mariners took a 3-2 lead in Game 5 needing only one more victory to win their first AL pennant. But the Jays came back home, rallied and ultimately prevailed.
While it would have been nice to see Seattle play its first ever World Series, this is the Jays first appearance in the Fall Classic since 1993.
I think both Canada and the United States (aside from Southern California) will be united in rooting for the Blue Jays against the heavily favored Dodgers.
The World Series commences on Friday night in Toronto.
