I agree with people who say it is dangerous and unsettling for Roger Stone to tell Alex Jones that President Trump should impose martial law if he loses the election as well as to seize ballots in Nevada, physically prevent people from voting and nationalize police forces.
Yet one must ask oneself why Stone would make such utterances. While one could argue that it could result in ginning up Trump's rabid base and potentially intimidate Biden supporters from voting. The long term consequences would be the acceptance of authoritarianism in America. But those are effects, not intent.
Stone's words are not those of a man confident that his former boss is going to prevail in a free and fair election. Indeed, if Trump were up by 7-10 points instead of being down 7-10 points there would be no need for him to contemplate such a thought much less utter it.
Simply put, the only reason Stone wants Trump to impose martial law if he loses the election is because he thinks Trump is going to lose the election.
Of course, we should be appalled with Stone's statement because Trump might very well try something like it and we must be prepared for it. Yet we should also keep in mind that public expressions of such thought shows Joe Biden's strength with American voters in contrast to Donald Trump's weakness.
