Vance Says He'll "Create Stories" About Haitian Immigrants Eating Pets as Ohio GOP Gov DeWine Calls It "Garbage"

Republican VP nominee J.D. Vance just will not let go of the "Haitian immigrants eat cats and dogs" story.

Not only that but Vance also said he would "create stories". Here's part of his exchange with CNN's Dana Bash:

Vance: The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.

Bash: You just said that this is a story that you created.

Vance: It comes from firsthand accounts from my constituents. I say that we’re creating a story, meaning we’re creating the American media focusing on it. I didn’t create 20,000 illegal migrants coming into Springfield thanks to Kamala Harris’ policies. Her policies did that. But yes, we created the actual focus that allowed the American media to talk about this story and the suffering caused by Kamala Harris’ policies.

We're creating the American media focusing on it?

Nope. Vance admitted he made up the story out of whole cloth. And yet he continues to embroider that cloth:

My constituents have brought approximately a dozen separate concerns to me. Ten of them are verifiable and confirmable, and a couple of them I talk about because my constituents are telling me firsthand that they’re seeing these things. So I have two options, Dana, I can ignore them, which is what the American media has done for years to this community, or I can actually talk about what people are telling me.

Actually, there is another option. Vance or his staff could have advised these constituents who saw these things firsthand to contact local authorities to report a crime. But he didn't because these constituents either don't exist or they didn't actually see anything and heard it in the right-wing media echo chambers.

Not only is Vance is being dishonest regarding the veracity of the "eating pets" story, but he is also flat out lying when he says the Haitian immigrants are here illegally. Ohio's Republican Governor Mike DeWine contradicted Vance's "created story" in an appearance on ABC's This Week in which he characterized the story as "garbage":

There’s a lot of garbage on the internet. You know, this is a piece of garbage that was simply not true. There’s no evidence of this at all.

This discussion about Haitians eating dogs is just not helpful. And again, these people are here legally. They’re here legally, and they want to work, and they are, in fact, working. And when you talk to the employers, what the employers tell you is, you know, we don’t know what we would do without them. They are working, and they’re working very hard.

Unfortunately, DeWine didn't mention Vance or Donald Trump by name and made it clear he still supports the Trump-Vance ticket. This means DeWine is supporting a ticket which will continue "create stories" about Ohio which aren't true. DeWine would have no such worry about the Harris-Walz ticket.
