Yankees Overcome Guardians in ALDS; Face Astros in ALCS For 3rd Time Since '17

The New York Yankees overcame a 2-1 deficit against the Cleveland Guardians and bested them in the deciding Game 5 by a score of 5-1

The Yankees got a solid outing from Nestor Cortes on short rest while Giancarlo Stanton hit a three run bomb in the first with Aaron Judge following with a solo shot in the 2nd. Anthony Rizzo added a RBI single in the fifth. The Guardians' only run came on a sacrifice fly by Jose Ramirez.

Whether you call them Guardians or Indians, next year Cleveland will have gone 75 years without winning a World Series.

Meanwhile, the Yankees will have little time to celebrate as they must travel to Houston and meet the Astros in the ALCS for the third time in six years starting tomorrow night. The Guardians-Yankees ALDS had two postponements due to rain and today's game coincides with Game 1 of the NLCS between the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres. The Yankees faced the Astros in the ALCS in both 2017 and 2019 with Houston prevailing both times. Will the third time be the charm for the Yankees or will the Astros continue to dominate this rivalry?
