Appearing at a Washington, D.C. bookstore this past Wednesday with fellow Democratic freshman Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who back in January made anti-Semitic remarks about "dual loyalty" of American Jews, Omar struck a similar theme. “So for me, I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country,” said Omar.
When Omar issued her apology, I expressed skepticism:
I'm not optimistic that Omar has learned her lesson and there will come a time her anti-Semitism will come to the fore once again. Should this come to pass, Pelosi will have to impose far stricter measures against Omar. These measures would consist of stripping her of her Committee responsibilities, suspending or entirely expelling her from the Democratic Party caucus altogether.
Well, that time has come very quickly. What is Nancy Pelosi going to do about it? Will Chelsea Clinton have to issue another tweet?
I have a bad feeling nothing will come to pass because Republicans in West Virginia's House of Delegates stupidly put out a sign linking Omar with the 9/11 attacks. As such, Democrats have been given the political space to run with an Islamophobia angle and portray Omar as a victim rather than scrutinize her obvious anti-Semitism.
But since anti-Semitism is such a fundamental part of Omar's character, it won't be long before she makes an another anti-Semitic remark and if Republicans are smart enough not interrupt her self-destruction then Pelosi will have no choice but to view Omar as a liability to the Democratic Party and remove her from the House Foreign Relations Committee.
