White House border czar Tom Homan is a man without humanity.
Following the ICE involved shooting deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Arajuo in Houston and Johan Sebastián in Biddeford, Maine earlier this month, Homan told Margaret Brennan on CBS' Face the Nation, “They would be alive today if they simply complied with a vehicle stop by federal law enforcement. Just comply.”
Yet neither man was ICE's intended target. So why did they have to comply? What did they do wrong? Was it because they were driving while brown? As Renee Graham of The Boston Globe put it, "It’s hard to comply when officers barely hesitate before they fire bullets into someone through that person’s windshield."
Mind you, Homan then claimed that ICE had made no mistakes in Minnesota. The families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti might like a word or two.
Homan's claim is dubious when you consider that if not for the deaths of two American citizens, President Trump would not have had him replace Gregory Bovino. It is clear there is little difference between Homan and Bovino. As I have previously argued, it doesn't matter who is running ICE. It only matters who is sitting in the Oval Office.
After all, when Homan declared that ICE vehicle stops would be temporarily put on hold following Sebastián's death, Trump immediately overruled him.
President Trump wants a police state which can arbitrarily kill people, be they citizens or non-citizens, and wants people who will implement his authoritarian regime without regard for human life. This is the kind of inhumanity which allows Tom Homan to blame ICE's victims for their own deaths.
