Cancelling Oslo's Pride Parade After Islamist Terrorist Attack Was a Mistake

On Friday, two people were killed and 21 others injured at multiple locations in Oslo's LGBTQ district in an Islamist terrorist attack.

Organizers in the LGBTQ community, at the behest of Norwegian authorities, responded by cancelling Oslo's Pride Parade and all other Pride events.

This is a mistake in my view because it gives the Islamist terrorist and those who support his views what they want while rewarding violent behavior. The whole objective of terrorism (Islamist or otherwise) is to disrupt civil society and intimidate it into submission.

The good news in all of this is that several thousand members of Oslo's LGBTQ community shared this same sentiment and held an impromptu parade anyway. This was the best way to honor those who died and were injured just for being who they are.
